Burger Shop 2 Review

Burger Shop 2 is a sequel to the time management game Burger Shop.  Unlike many likeminded games there is a story in Burger Shop 2. The story starts off where the last game had finished off. In the end of the last game you had an empire of burger restaurants and lost it along with your memory. Your goal in the game is to rebuild your empire, doing this restaurant by restaurant. This being the premise of the story in this game is as basic as it is. However it does get silly at times and even involves aliens from the previous game. Although the story isn’t the core of the game as the game is based on gameplay.

Burger Shop 2

Gameplay wise this game does play out exactly the same as Burger Shop. The gameplay for this goes as this you pick up and combine items that are available on a conveyer belt. But you need to be quick as possible because many customers have low patience. Even though this game is more challenging than its predecessor. This game is still very easy to pick up and play. Especially to those who played the previous games, since the controls/design is the exact same between the two games.

However this game as a sequel does do a great job of adding new content to the game. Starting with new items to cook, like hot chocolate and pizza. To add to this there is a horde of new customers to attend to each with their own requirements. Some even provide an extra challenge such as dog lovers who require that their dogs get a biscuit. Which, if overlooked lowers their level of happiness. Even though the game is more challenging there is some assistance in the form of the robot. The robot is now upgraded to a 2.0 option where you can deliver one food item to each customer on the table. Provided you fill up the robots power bar enough. Although, if you use the robot’s primary function before it is upgraded, you can still use the standard version.

I also feel that the games environments are livelier than in the prequel. The environments in this game are more detailed and it seems brighter. The beach house shop is a great example of this as the window shows a background with boats sailing in the ocean. The difference between this and other level environments is huge. Since many levels have a static environment. However this level’s environment has some life in it.

Even though there is plenty of extra content that I will applaud. I don’t like some of the changes implemented to the game. Particularly the changes made to the procedures applied to the production of various hot food items. In this game you items that require a machine to make. This issue in particular is with the sauce machine puts ketchup etc onto food. In the previous game it didn’t matter if a container had fries in or not, before any sauce is placed. In Burger Shop if you had put ketchup in the container, the game didn’t care.

However in this game you have to put items in the order the game wants you to make it. That being that the fries etc has to be in the container before it is paired with sauce. I feel that having such a mechanic in this game is excessive. Firstly this mechanic wasn’t utilised in the first game, so why is it needed in this game. Lastly this game is a time management game this just adds extra messing about, which wastes time. Yet with items the order doesn’t matter as I can put cheese on a plate. But then if I put a potato on the same plate the game recognises the cheese as a potato topping.

Even though, this game is short in length. The game itself does also have plenty of content on offer as it has various modes on offer which have a different offering in play style.

Firstly you have story mode and expert mode which is a harder version of it, which on top that has all items already unlocked. This serves as a standard mode in which you serve customers in a variety of different restaurants. This mode also plays out as a pseudo puzzle in a sense. Mainly because the items that come across the conveyer belt are items that you need to combine to appease customers.

Also all the items you get are a pre set amount of items that are needed. You use them to you can build an item such as a basic burger to use to then expand on. But as well you get a tray to put one item on. This gives you an extra free space on the conveyer belt in order to get more food options. I tended to put basic items I had built on, which is helpful especially in later levels.

Secondly you have extreme mode which is a hard version of expert story mode. The main difficulty with this is mode is that you have to score perfect scores all the time. If your customers start to lose patience they will take cookies to appease them. However the moment you lose all your cookies you have to redo the level from scratch. This mode I feel is frustrating because of this. Particularly on the later levels it is annoying due to the amount of reattempts made.

There are also 2 modes that aren’t pseudo puzzle modes. Since, you don’t have a limited amount of items to choose from. Instead you get a pick and mix of assorted food items that is infinite and random to choose from. This is both good and bad biased on how you look at it. Primarily because it will give you items you don’t need at the current time but will want later. On the other hand you can have one of each drink, ice cream etc on their respective equipment. I used this to my advantage as I could give one item out just as I had one cooking. I liked this as you could get these items when you want them.

The first mode is relaxed mode which is the easiest game mode to play on out of all the modes in game. This mode is gentle and offers no real challenges or difficulty. This mode offers players the right to deliver to customers at any time as your customers won’t leave.

The other mode is challenge mode; this mode operates the same as relaxed mode. However, the main differences between the two modes are that you get 60 seconds per wave to serve customers. In this mode you can fail this mode because once a customer loses patience you will fail. The further you get in this mode the more likely it is to happen.

In short I can generally recommend this game to most casual gamers. I like how this game keeps to what makes the original game great. But then expands on its predecessor. However just like the games predecessor there isn’t much content. As a result of this it’s unlikely that you will return to play on it.
