Rescue team is a time management based strategy game. In this game you manage a group of emergency workers that are located on islands. The islands have been destroyed due to bad weather. Your job is to direct the people you have on your team and tell them what tasks to do to rebuild the islands. Tasks range from repairing a house to rescuing people.
Rescue Team appears to be a simple game to play, despite this appearance. This game is a much more than just go and rebuild the map. As each level will provide you with a pre determined set of objectives which range in difficulty.
The game is more complex than what it seems as because not only are you timed to do each level. But in each level your resources are limited in one way or another. That could be due to the inability to acquire particular resources. Alternatively there is a limited stock available at one point or another. As a consequent result you are dependent on obtaining some of the materials needed by yourself. There could be a limited amount of people you have in your team. Consequently, having a smaller workforce limits how many resources you can obtain at a time. On some levels you have unblock areas on the map that you wish to go to. This takes time and resources in order to do.
But before you start to play each level provided you don’t click your mouse it is wise to hover the mouse over every building/resource available on the map before you decide to play each mission as it will help you decide how you should plan an approach to the level which I found as a very helpful technique of knowing what resources I should gather first and the most efficient way of completing the objectives on the level.
But there is various things I don’t like with the game. Firstly I think the game doesn’t really encourage you to play because there are no rewards to playing the game. The closest to a reward the game offers, is rebuilding a virtual house with in-game points. This game doesn’t go any further as you cannot earn any extra content. Even basic things like changing the uniform colours or obtaining upgrades such as being able to work faster etc.
Also when it comes to having a story there is no real story and the closest you get to a story is the cut scene that starts the game and ending cut scene. The audio in the game is fairly mundane and the sound effects do get repetitive so most people will turn it off. There is also no optimisation for modern screens. This is because you cannot change the settings of the games screen resolution. As a result of the fixed screen you will get black borders with a square pattern around the screen of the game.
However there are plenty of things that I do like with the game. I like the small file size of the game of only 41 MB. This allows me to install the game in a few seconds on my computer. The main benefit of having a low file size is that it makes the game more accessible. Particularly given that the majority of modern computers can run the game without any problems. Even on the lowest of specifications.
Overall I don’t really recommend Rescue Team. Primarily due to the fact it can be completed in a few hours. However Rescue Team is regularly on sale on steam so it can bought as cheap as 39p. At that price it might be worth looking at. Provided you wanted a simplistic game that you could play for a weekend especially for children/casual gamers. Outside of the aforementioned purposes this game isn’t worth looking at.
