Scania Truck Driving Simulator Review

Scania Truck Driving Simulator is a truck driving simulator. Scania Truck Driving Simulator challenges players through a plethora of different driving scenarios. Scenarios in this game range from driving around cones in a driving test. Through to more complex challenges such as driving through enclosed spaces or even around Scania’s demo centre. The game also advertised an online mode but as of the time of writing it doesn’t work.

I think that the game is different experience compared to most driving games out there. Primarily because instead of driving around a track or alternatively being given access a world to roam free. Instead you are completing objective based levels. To add to the experience this game is a more realistic and intelligent driving simulator. Since this game provides you with difficult scenarios, which will occasionally put you in close quarters. To add to the difficulty the game penalises you for every mistake made, which can make you fail a scenario.

Whilst, the primary objective of this game is to successfully complete a variety of driving scenarios. The game does offer a mode where you can drive around a 3d city with goods of your choosing. You can even drive around the Scania demo centre if you choose to do so. Whilst you can drive into the car park for the facility you don’t get to go into the building. This will be a letdown for many especially those who wanted to go into the demo centre. Even though in the steam description it advertises and I quote. “Take the opportunity to learn more about the world leading Scania trucks with a unique opportunity for a virtual visit to Scania’s own Demo Centre”.

Technically I feel that the game is quite basic in some aspects. My first criticism is with regards to the customisation of vehicles in the game. The options available are lacking, because you only have 1 truck design. This is a missed opportunity on the developer’s behalf. Since the game could have had a plethora of trucks for the player to drive in.

There could have been a complete description of the truck and its statistics whilst pushing the Scania brand. I find this lacking as when I first started the game I was quite happy with the selection of picking your own gender, name, what colour out of 20+ different colours you want your truck to be in. There is even the option to decide where you driving seat is located. As you can have the driver seat on the left side like most of the world. But the options for your in game vehicle don’t have as wide selection. However you can have it on the right side like the UK and a small handful of other countries. I like the inclusion of having the drivers seat on the right side. Since many players will be accustomed to driving in the right seat rather than the left.

But your profile choices no real effects on game play. In the game your other choices actually have no real effect either. On most scenarios it is one challenge with no difference in driving around the area. Even in free roam mode which you are allowed to drive around a virtual city with traffic driving around the map. Changing the driving seat in this mode has no difference except where you are sat. I thought was a shame as it could have allowed you to drive on the left hand side. Rather than just being a different place to sit.

One thing I do think is strange about this game is progress. As when it comes to playing the game’s various modes you can access each mode. You can also complete each mission starting from the top and working your way down the page completing each scenario. However all you have to do is complete the objectives in each level. It doesn’t matter how many mistakes you make during the level. As long as you reach the end goal the game will allow you to continue onto the next mission.

Overall I would recommend avoiding Scania Truck Driving Simulator. Mostly due to the short length and how shallow the game is. Fundamentally this game it really isn’t worth your time or money. However, if this game is available in a bundle. Then it might be worth spending a few minutes on it. However I wouldn’t advise seeking this game out as there are better alternatives out there.
