Turbo Pug is an endless runner game where you control a pug running through procedurally generated levels. As a player, your main task is to keep the pug safe by jumping over obstacles along its path.

In terms of the game’s design, the core concept is straightforward: players monitor the pug and jump over harmful objects. At the same time, collecting cartoon pug faces that increases the players score until you can’t dodge an obstacle.
The game’s main flaw is its reliance on randomly generated levels. While this approach aims to offer variety, it creates technical problems for the gameplay. The key to success is timing jumps, but the random placement of obstacles sometimes forces players to land on hazards immediately after another jump, making it mostly luck-based whether the next obstacle can be avoided.

The in-game weather presents additional challenges. For instance, during nighttime, reduced lighting can make it difficult to see obstacles, particularly spikes, which may blend into the background. In contrast, daytime lighting is brighter, making it easier to identify hazards. Additionally, the lightning effect causes the screen to flash white and temporarily prevents the pug from jumping, which may end the game depending on obstacle placement immediately ahead.

Visually, the game uses a 16-bit art style consistent with retro games. The colour scheme is bright and cheerful, reminiscent of graphics from early 1990s games. This art style gives the game a retro appearance.
Some design choices are inconsistent, as certain obstacles appear out of place among various assets, such as lava pits and skeletons. The collection of asset styles is also present in some unlockable items. While there are many customisation options, some are unusual, such as a penguin character and a pug that poops rainbows.

Overall, Turbo Pug fails to stand out due to its average gameplay and lack of meaningful improvements over free endless runner games. The only distinguishing feature is its pug theme, which is not enough to recommend it over better, free alternatives.
