Yet Another Zombie Defense is a free to play arcade style twin stick shooter where you defend yourself against onslaughts of zombies and/or other players. Either playing alone or alternatively playing alongside or against other players.
To sum this game up in a few words is short and sweet. The amount of content that the game offers also is a testament to that. Since the game offers a limited amount of content as there are only 3 different modes to play on.
The first mode that is on offer is a defence mode. This is the standard mode where you must defend yourself and other players against various hordes. This mode starts at the first night of the game. At the beginning you start off with a handgun and no other resources to help you. Whilst it is enough to last a few nights you will need better resources to survive. But the game does give you the option during the day to prepare for the next horde you face.
This is an ideal time to create a base/build an arsenal to improve your chances of survival. As you will buy items to survive and help you take on zombies. Overtime you get to build up an arsenal of turrets, guns and ammo with cash found in game. This makes the subsequent horde easier to survive as after every horde survived the zombies become tougher.
As an added bonus you can select a skill after every few hordes. The in game skills you earn are passive and there is 5 different perks to choose from. The first perk I upgraded was the perk that increases your reload speed. I like this perk especially when I used fully automatic weapons as you can near enough have nonstop firing once you have got the highest level. This perk is generally one of my go to perks to choose. Â The two perks I chose after I upgraded my reload speed were health related perks. One perk is having larger amounts of health and the other quicker health regeneration. I liked these perks as they improved my survival rate especially at later levels.
The last 2 perks on offer are being able to pick up items from a distance and faster movement. The former is handy when you get enough towers as you will run out of ammo in time. The latter perk is handy in general but if you build a base provided you are accurate and well equipped. This perk is generally useful it is especially useful if you don’t build a base.
The second mode is endless night in which you fend for yourself against an endless horde of zombies. This mode is harder as you don’t get the chance to buy turrets and other items. Instead you have to pick up drops such as various power ups and weapons. I feel that this mode is the arcade style mode in the game. Since you are playing to see how long you can survive against the clock rather than finding out how many nights you can survive.
In comparison to the defence mode which throws waves at you until you are killed. This mode is harder in general as the screen will eventually get overrun as the game will keep throwing zombies at you. Another thing to consider is that in this mode you can also only carry one weapon at a time. In some ways it can be easier, especially if you get decent drops. As you can potentially get top tier weapons at the start of the game.
The final mode is a PVP mode where you have to kill others and the zombies that directly attack you. The main issue with the last mode is that nobody playing the game so you would be playing alone. This detracts the point of playing on it as it is a player vs player vs zombie’s mode. Unless of course you have friends that will happily play this game with you. Inevitably I didn’t play on this mode as I couldn’t find anyone that was interested. However, I don’t think that I’m missing much.
As anticipated this game is short, simple, it is very easy to play and pick up as this game can be effortlessly finished in 4 hours. But after you have got all the achievements there isn’t anything else to see and do. The only exception to this rule is if you want to get to the top of the leaderboards.
Since this is free to play game it won’t hold the same depth as other games. Generally I wouldn’t advocate that it is a great game to be playing on. However, I might advocate the game if you are seeking out yet another zombie defense game. Especially if you’re searching for a quick and mindless arcade shooter. Nevertheless, I would not bother with this game if you are after a game with some depth.
