Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas Review

Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas is a Christmas themed jigsaw game. That provides players with a small selection of festive jigsaws to complete.

Whilst this is a Christmas game that offers 26 Christmas themed jigsaws that are very cheerful. Jigsaws range from a nativity scene through to food commonly eaten at Christmas. Although the main images used in the jigsaws are photographs. I feel that even if the Photographs aren’t the best quality images the photos are still decent to look at. But the photographs should have been of better quality as it isn’t up to modern standards. I like how you get 26 images to complete as it can be a little jigsaw advent calendar.  Especially, if you do one puzzle each day until Christmas day, and you even get a bonus jigsaw to do on the main menu as an extra puzzle or for Boxing Day.

But I think that excluding the images aside there isn’t too much of a Christmas feeling. Mainly because the ambience of the game is lacking, yes you get to do Christmas jigsaws. However, outside of this there isn’t much going for the game Christmas wise. Whilst there is a short piece of Christmas music that is played on a loop whilst you are in the menu’s there isn’t any other Christmas music. Since, when you do the jigsaws there is a fireplace effect playing in the background. Although, there is nothing in the game that makes the sound effects relevant to the game. I feel that there should have been Christmas music in the background rather than fireplace effects.

Technically I will say it is decent as the game is in good working order and has no real bugs as such. But when it comes to the design of this game I think there are some neat aspects to it. In particular the plethora of options that makes the game’s very accessible. Since, there is an option to show what the image looks like when the puzzle is complete. You can even remove the need to rotate images which is handy for children and others who may struggle. Particularly on larger puzzles which might difficult for some because there is varied puzzle size which ranges from 60 through to 350 pieces.

However, at the same time this game is lacking in some aspects. This is because there is no way you can sort pieces out such as separating the outer edges. There is no boxes so you can put pieces into shapes, colours etc. Instead, you have the pieces flying around in the background with no method of sorting them out. This is annoying especially if you don’t want your main board getting cluttered.

Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas Mince Pies

In short whilst this game sets out to achieve its goals quite well. However, I can only recommend this game when it is on sale. Since this game is very short and is completable in less than 4 hours.
