Breach & Clear: Deadline Rebirth

Breach & Clear: Deadline Rebirth is an updated version of Breach & Clear: Deadline, this game is a squad based action RPG game that is set in a zombie apocalypse. The main difference between the 2 versions is the removal of the option to play online. There is also an overhaul on various game mechanics.

For an action RPG Game I think it is very basic as you have limited customisation options. The best you have is a choice of 12 different portraits of male soldiers. Which have its own in game avatar, there is no way you can have a custom avatar. In this game you start off with a unit class such as a sniper or medic. For every time you level up you develop skills that are in one of many skill trees. Each tree has its own skills such as medic which give you skills to restore health. However you can also pick other combinations later on when you unlock other trees such as a medic/scout.

Sadly there are no stats in this game to differentiate the characters. The only differences are what perks you choose to unlock which I think is a shame. It would have been better to have individual stats so you know each role for your squad mate. You could have even had builds such as a medic that have a high health rate but low running speed. You could then have used it as a tank/healer build. Rather than everyone has the same statistics in game. The only difference between characters is abilities that they can use and what perks they have chosen.

Despite the fact that gameplay wise this is marketed to be a tactics based game. There is little use of this since your main enemies are zombies. Most of the time zombies can be killed easily. Realistically the only time tactics can be used is against human enemies. Although they have a higher damage ratio to you so instead of trying to take cover. I resorted to using the zombies against them when possible. Other times I used an ability that turned the enemies against each other and then took them out while they are fighting.

Another thing I have noticed is how much of the game is very reminiscent of Diablo. Whether it being the dungeons that offer a dungeon crawler experience that involves you going through and fighting your way through each floor. The quests in this game are mostly about playing fetch. Even though visually, the main difference between the 2 games is the setting. There is also the exclusion of melee combat in this game.

The game is also very poor quality as when you are using the games user interface. The controls utilized in the game purposefully have console controllers in mind. Examples including using left/right buttons to go through menus. It even features buttons on an Xbox controller when upgrading items on a work bench.

The main issue which affects the whole game is in combat (which is the main offering of the game. This is because the AI in the game is quite basic. Your own team except for whichever one you control will not follow instructions. Taking this as an example if you tell them to move to a position and stay there they generally will. However the moment you move for whatever reason they will actually follow you instead. The enemy AI is also terrible in game. In particular it affects zombies the most. But even cult followers/mercenaries are as bad sometimes. In some instances they will stare at the wall and you let you shoot them with no reprisals.

Overall I would recommend that you don’t play this game as it is a repetitive, basic experience. If you do buy this game, only buy the single version when it is on sale. Since, the 2 pack is significantly more expensive. In fact you can actually buy 2 single copies of the game for cheaper than a 2 pack.
